Mass Effect 2 Demo

I pretty much ignored the original Mass Effect on release, but somehow acquired it anyway (then forgot I’d done so). Then, when the sequel came out, it sparked interest in the first game. How lucky for me, then, it was on my shelf all along! I played through it earlier this year, then a month ago I got the sequel for my birthday. I hope to play it soon, once BioShock 2 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Zelda: Twilight …

Mass Effect (360): COMPLETED!

At almost exactly 22 hours into the story, I completed the game. And it was a very good game too, even if there were lots of things I didn’t like about it (more on them in a minute). I won’t reveal any spoilers, except one: who’d have thought Saren would have turned out to be the Green Goblin? He’s even got the thrown explosives and flying surfboard thingy. I suppose the clue was in his face. See: Anyway. The bad …

Mass Effect (360)

This is the game I’ve played most this week. In fact, it’s pretty much the only thing bar Excitebike I’ve played. I’m getting into it now, and really enjoying it. It’s not perfect (the jerking graphics, the difficult to negotiate “bumpy” planets, the stupid lifts, the backtracking, the item and weapon management, etc.) but the story if gripping and the “just another ten minutes” factor is high. I’m not sure I like having mission after mission thrown at me every …

Mass Effect (360)

All the excitement surrounding the recent release of Mass Effect 2 made me interested in picking up the original game. After all, I enjoyed Knights of the Old Republic, which is very similar (and by the same people), and it should be mere pennies to buy now. In fact, it was even less than pennies, as somewhere along the line I’d already bought it. And promptly forgotten about it. It certainly made obtaining it to play much quicker, anyway! I …

Star Trek Online (PS5)

If you’re a long time reader of this diary, or you follow me online generally, you probably know I don’t play games online very often, and I never play MMORPGs at all. Well, not since a brief dabble into Anarchy Online some 17 years ago, anyway. Why, you might ask, am I playing Star Trek Online then? And I would answer you with, I Really Don’t Know. As a free to play game, I did a bit of research first. …

The 2010 Gaming Expenditure Horror

I’ve been tracking which games I play, on my Gaming Diary, for 6 years now. It’s helped me realise how many different games I play, and how many I complete. This year, however, I’ve additionally started tracking the games I buy, and how much I paid for them – the aim being to scare myself into how much I spend on gaming. Thing is, just knowing that it’s logged has actually made me more frugal with my spending. Not only …

Lego Indiana Jones 2 (360)

It was my birthday yesterday, and my lovely wife and daughter bought me this (and two other sequels – Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2). So I set up my 360 for the first time in three months and had a go. It actually took quite a while to get into the game, but once in, it was all great! Clearly it’s going to be more of the same Lego stuff, but there are differences. Each “episode” has its own …

Rabbids Go Home (Wii)

I started this a month or so ago, and although it was great, it seemed to crash a lot via the USB Loader I was using. And Mass Effect and Batman came along. And other stuff. Went back to it this week. It’s a surprisingly long game, actually. Although each level is pretty short (some are longer than others, however), there are LOADS of them. I’ve done about 20 so far, and I’m not even half way to the moon …

Batman: Arkham Asylum (360): COMPLETED!

With Mass Effect bagged on Monday, my next game to tackle was this. And what an absolutely outstanding game it was! I didn’t really enjoy the demo when I played that a while back, but now having played the full game I can see why – you miss some of the first part of the game out, and are chucked into a later bit too early. This means you need to use some slightly more advanced techniques too soon. It …

From the dawn of time: ugvm 07

It’s been a while since I “reprinted” any of ugvm. In Issue 07, the last under my editorship, we looked at multiplayer game etiquette, the CD32, the NeoGeo Pocket Colour, and about ten million game reviews. Including Knights of the Old Republic, a pre-cursor to Mass Effect – a game I’m currently enjoying very much. Anyhoo – the magazine! The Simpsons Game (360)

I bought this yesterday, in a deal where I got this and Mass Effect for £22.50, which was pretty good. It’s also the only thing I’ve played (so far) this weekend. First of all, I should point out that as a game, it’s nothing new. It suffers from the same irritations as most cheap and crap platformers (wonky camera, dodgy controls, item collection, and so on). However, it knows this. It even takes the michael out of itself as a …
